Munro hollowing system

Rolly Munro is an accomplished turner - but a genius tool designer!  When Rolly originated his hollowing tool it was a truly great step forward in the development of the woodturner's ability to create deep hollow forms.  In my opinion it is the Rolls Royce of hollowing tools and will outperform any other on the market.  And unlike most other hollowing tools that will give adequate performance once you have mastered them, the Rolly Munro tool is easy to use, fast to learn and incredibly effective in operation.

In Rolly's hands, the single tool creates the entire vessel, inside - and out!  It does so without fuss and without the need to learn any tricks.  This is a tool without foibles.

Of course, like all deep hollowing tools which use the shielded ring principle, regardless of source, it is really designed for use in wet end-grain.  Whilst it will perform very adequately in dry timber too, it is at its least effective when used on side grain - where the grain runs across the lathe bed, as in bowl turning.  It will still cope with this abuse  [Munro Hollowing tools] better than any other I can think of, but it isn't really what it was designed for.  Hollowing tools are for - hollowing (see - the clue was in the name).  And deep hollowing tools are for ... ... ... (now you can fill in the blank) whereas bowl gouges are what you normally need for bowl turning.  Horses for courses - no bad thing.

The Munro system has been extended and enhanced over the years to reflect changing technology and materials as well as Rolly's ceaseless striving to make the best holloower on the market.

The latest version is released under the name 'Wundercutt10 ' and is now available. This new tool works on the same principle as previous versions but is refined. The cutter is now tungsten carbide (TCT) as standard with no HSS alternative. The cutter is 10mm diameter and ably serves to do the tasks that the two previous models (8mm and 12 mm) shared between them. The new tool is manufactured from stainless steel throughout, eliminating the possibility of corrosion and the shaft is 5/8" for stability. The cutter head has been re-engineered though the proven Munro cutting principle remains unchanged. An important improvement is the incorporation of a fiendishly clever method for setting the cutting depth/clearance, that eliminates all of the trial and error that afflicts previous and virtually all competing systems. This feature alone deserves a prize for ingenuity and objectivity! All in all this is a great new tool that was well worth waiting for.

Along with the new hollower we list the replacement parts as well as the various spare cutters and blades, the sharpening jig and various spare and extension components for the previoous generations.  We have tried to append descriptions that enable you to identify the parts you might need if you already own a Rolly tool and are looking for spares.
