One of the range of miniature planes from Crown Tools of Sheffield, UK, this plane is suitable for model-making, instrument-making and other tasks where small scale and precision working are the watchwords.
The mini scraper plane functions exactly as its full-size brethren, allowing very fine finishing cuts to be made, especially useful when dealing with interlocked and reversing grain patterns such as in burr timber. The blade is 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) wide and is bedded at an angle of approximately 85 degrees. The blade is held against the 'frog' by a screw passing through the length of the body, from the rear. A brass thumbscrew through the frog locks the blade in place. The side plates of the plane are in brass and the filler is of plantation-grown rosewood. The overall length of the plane is marginally less than 3 in. (72mm) and the body is 3/4in. (19.1 mm) wide. The blade is high carbon steel, 1mm (0.040") thick.
