The veneer cutting saw is designed for cutting veneer flitches to size ready for use. The 3 inch (75mm) cutting edge of the saw is curved along its length enabling the saw to be 'soft-started' into the face of the veneer, rather than across the edge: it also allows the cut to be made away from an edge, reducing edge splintering.
The carbon steel re-sharpenable blade is cut with 15 ppi (points per inch) and is secured to the handle by two screws, allowing the blade to be reversed thus enabling both edges of the double edged blade to be utlilised, extending life between sharpenings. The handle is beech. This tool is from the range of Crown Hand Tools of Sheffield, UK.
