Product description

This corner chisel is hand forged and ground from high carbon steel specifically for The ToolPost, with 1" faces and two cutting edges meeting at 90 degrees to cut a square corner, usually within mortises. The process of forging the tool, rather than machining from a solid steel billet, ensures that that the grain structure of the tool directly follows the form of the tool giving superior strength.

Unusually the tool features a forged socket into which the hardwood (rosewood) handle is fitted. This style of handle mounting is generally preferred in situations where heavy work is to be undertaken since the full diameter of the handle timber is available to absorb the stress of mallet blows. Each blow on the mallet increases the grip of the socket on the handle and the handle section is not reduced by the need for a tang hole to be drilled to attach the blade. Because there is no tang, there is no 'stress raiser' in the handle at the point where the tang terminates - a problem frequently encountered with tanged style handle mountings.

Primarily intended for heavy work such as timber framing, this tool has an 8in. (200mm) long blade, measured to the shouder and 12in. (300mm) to the top of the socket. With the handle fitted in the socket, the overall length of the tool is 18in. (460mm).

The 36mm (1.4in.) diameter handle is fitted with a heavy top hoop to prevent spreading when used with a mallet. The blade of the chisel is mirror polished externally and it is supplied with a fitted leather tip guard.

About The Toolpost

What's to say, this is us! We are woodworkers and have been retailing in the woodturning, carving and woodworking industry for over 20 year, across two generations. We sell tools we would - and indeed do - use. If it is on the shelves, it carries (for one reason or another) our seal of approval. We are wholly independent, we can choose wherever the wind blows, we have no formal affiliation, which makes our opinons and decision the only trulky inpartial ones in the country as things stand.

We have worked with both big and small manufacturers over the years, we have helped brands develop tools, lathes and accessories, as well as creating our own.

We are proud to manufacture, distribute and retail a huge array of tools, equipment, machinery and supplies for woodturning and wood carving from across the globe.
