The clue being very much in the name, tenon saws are designed for cutting tenons for mortise and tenon joints. However such finely crafted, stiff-backed, finely toothed and accurate saws are inevitably used wherever the craftsman wishes to make an accurate, deep cut in timber, particularly in hardwoods. This saw has a 12" (300 mm) blade length giving it a decent 'draw', ensuring that it is unlikely to be pulled out of the guide when used in a mitre block, for instance. The blade is cut with fine, 13 ppi (points per inch) toothing. The back of the blade is both stiffened and weighted by the use of a brass back folded over the edge of the blade. The handle is in kiln-dried and stained beech, and is of the loop pattern traditionally fitted to such English-style saws. Manufactured by Crown Hand Tools, of Sheffield, UK of Sheffield, UK.
