Product description

Bench chisels are the 'maids of all work' of the woodworkers toolkit. Available in various styles and a range of widths they are used for joint cutting, paring and myriad other cutting jobs requiring precision and clean cutting action.

These chisels are normally sharpened with a primary bevel of 25 degrees and a secondary bevel of 30 degrees. However, if softwood is being utlised, it may be found beneficial to reduce the secondary bevel to 25 degrees to match the primary bevel to give a cleaner cut in these softer timbers. This does result in a more easily damaged cutting edge so should not be undertaken lightly - and never for use in hardwoods. Bench chisels should be sharpened to the user's satisfaction, after dressing the back flat, before first use.

This set of ten (10) chisels from Crown Hand Tools, of Sheffield, UK, is of the bevel edge form - the blade is ground away on either side to reduce binding and increase manouverability when working in close confines - for example when cutting dovetails. The blades are of High Carbon steel to enable a very fine edge to be produced, for the smoothest of cuts. The set is supplied in a wooden box, suitable for gift packing or presentation.

The chisels are fitted with parallel brass ferrules and the blade seats on the handle with a traditional forged bolster. The handle is in plantation-grown rosewood and is of circular cross-section.
