Like the toolrest banjo, the Wivamac tailstock features a cam-lock clamp which can be operated with a single hand, yet provides a very solid lock between the tailstock and bed.  The throat of the generously-sized quill (or tailstock spindle, or barrel) takes MT 2 taper accessories, such as centres, and is through-bored 8 mm (5/16") for boring operations.

The quill itself can be locked using a convenient  locking clamp and the full travel of the quill (100 mm on DB80x range; 110 mm on DB1000/1200/6000) is attained by turning the large handwheel equipped with an easily-gripped knob.  The design of the DB1000/1200/6000 quill permits auto-ejection of suitable Morse taper equipment as the quill is returned to the retracted position.

Both designs of tailstock are of cast construction.   The DB1209 tailstock, above left, is provided as standard on the DB1200 and on the DB1000 series lathes.  Whilst there are no technical reasons why it could not be used on the DB80x lathes it is felt that, for most users, the reduction in the available "between centres" capacity due to the greater length of this tailstock would be unacceptable on these smaller lathes: but the choice is available if you wish to take it.
