The Versatool II is a very direct development of the original Versatool, employing the same type of pick cutter in its basic format.  It is intended as a simple hollowing tool and emulates the cutting style – and flexibility – of the 'Arkansas toothpick' style of cutter so beloved of the masters of hollow forms such as Ed Moulthrop and David Ellsworth.  Unlike the pick cutters produced by some of our commercial rivals, the heavy section cutter on the Versatool allows very controlled cutting, whilst the generous tip radius helps to prevent the surface furrowing so characteristic of the narrower, and shallower, cutter picks often employed.  The lateral stabiliser ensures that the cutting action is always smooth and consistent and helps considerably to develop a smooth cut surface – even when in the hands of a beginner.

The primary change to this tool has been to lengthen the shank, giving a greater hollowing depth capability, and a matching increase in the span of the stabiliser, which is supplied as standard, to allow the tool to be used around more voluminous (fatter!) hollow forms.  In addition to the standard 8 mm (5/16") diameter pick cutter, a 10 mm (3/8") version has been introduced which gives a deeper bevel and a softer nose profile for improved surface finishing.  This cutter has a reduced shank so that it fits into the standard head with the 8mm cutter mounting hole.

As you may realise from reading the preceding section on the Supercut II, the Versatool can also be equipped with the stems and circular cutters from the Supercut II tool, thus instantly converting a Versatool II into a Supercut II..

It is simplicity itself to convert any model in the new BCT range to any other model in that range.  The following specifies the process required in each case.  Please note that these are not upgrades: all tools are created equal – these are conversions to increase the flexibility for the user, maximising his purchase value.

To Convert Versatool II to Supercut II:  Select desired cutter (1/2" or 3/8") and matching stem.

To Convert Supercut II to Versatool II:  Select desired pick cutter diameter (8 mm or 10 mm).

To Convert Supercut II or Versatool II to HolloMate:  Remove Supercut/Versatool cutter head completely. Install HolloMate head complete with cutter.

To Convert from HolloMate to Versatool II or Supercut II:  Remove HolloMate head complete with cutter.  Install Versatool head.  Select Versatool cutter (8 mm or 10 mm) for Versatool II conversion.  For Supercut II conversion, select either ½" or 3/8" Supercut cutter and matching stem.

Please note however, that although the newly-developed range of tools allows complete flexibility with interchangeability of parts between the different models it has NOT been possible to make these new componehnts backwards-compatible, to mount on earlier tools (with the sole possible exception of earlier Hollomate tools.)
