Sharpening Systems & Packages

To produce the sharpest cutting edge in the shortest possible time nothing rivals Tormek wetstone grinding.

Why use wet grinding?  Because the process sharpens without heating the tool and the sharpened surface is ground more cleanly thanks to the irrigation.  And wet grinding produces no sparks - an important consideration in a workshop where shavings, wood dust and potentially explosive wood flour atmospheres are everyday facts of life.  The Tormek system combines this excellent grinding process with the essential finishing process of honing the tool.  An integral leather honing wheel is provided and this, in combination with a profiled wheel where required, provides the facility to render any tool razor sharp.

The use of jigs for controlling tool positioning ensures precise repeatability during sharpening, minimising the amount of material removed, saving sharpening time and extending tool life.  There is a Tormek jig for just about every eventuality whilst the standard Universal Support also permits freehand grinding when required.

The Tormek range now features three models: the new Tormek T7; the SuperGrind 2006 and the SuperGrind 1206, respectively, the specifications of which are shown in the table, below.  In summary, the T-7 and SuperGrind 2006 are capable of any sharpening task, can be run on a continuous basis and are to be recommended for grinding woodturning tools and for sharpening planer blades.

The Ultimate Sharpening Machine is the Tormek T-7, setting new standards in wetstone sharpening: the best just got even better.

The SuperGrind 1206 is a lighter machine equipped with smaller grinding and honing wheels, not designed for continuous duty (30 min/hr.), but perfectly at home sharpening  woodcarving tools and hand tools for the home craftsman.  Whilst the Supergrind 1206 has been engineered to provide an economical entry point into the world of wet grinding, the SuperGrind 2006 offers all of the productivity features that make it perfectly at home in professional and enthusiast's workshops and with commercial and industrial tool sharpening services around the world.
