Following the acclaimed success of his world-renowned grinding jig, Mick O'Donnell also produces a special version of the O'Donnell Tool Sharpening
System to enable owners of 10" Wetstone Grinders to have the same advantages as those enjoyed by users of his system for high-speed grinders.The O'Donnell philosophy is to have
pre-set bevel angle positions to suit most woodworking tools such as turning tools, cabinetmaking and joinery tools, carving tools etc. to give accuracy and repeatability. This new jig has 7 pre-set
angles at 5° increments from 15° to 45° which are registered with a spring loaded plunger. The jig is operated by two, easy to handle levers and wheel wear is simply compensated after
measuring using the slip gauge provided with the jig. The large platform is set at an angle of 20° downwards to give a consistent and comfortable working position. There are
two drip trays which collect the water from the platform and direct it back to the wheel. As on the version for high speed grinders, the platform has an accessory slot to take the guide set and the stone dresser.
The guide set comprises three guides, a
90° for square chisels and plane irons, a 60° for skew chisels and scrapers and a slide bar which can be used to produce a personalised guide at any required angle.The wheel dresser is a devil stone which fits into a holder featuring a hand wheel for fine feed
control. This not only cleans and sharpens the wheel surface but also makes the surface flat and aligns it parallel to the accessory slot in the platform.
The jig comes with setting up and operating instructions. The Sharpening System consists of ; The O'Donnell Sharpening Jig, a Guide Set and a Wheel Dresser. There are two models, one designed expressly for the
Tormek 2000 (but excluding models 2005, 2006, 1205 and
1206) whilst the other is suitable for the other makes of 10" wetstone grinder such as the Delta, APTC, Poolewood etc.
