SuperNova2 Chuck
Update on an old favourite from the New World!

Sorry, but we have now sold out of SuperNova chucks completely.  We suggest you consider either the very flexible Versachuck or the Robert Sorby Patriot chuck in lieu, both of which have jaw mountings compatible with the SuperNova.

For more information on the range of SuperNova Chuck Jaws and Accessories, please refer to the application notes , below.
These jaws can also be mounted on our
VersaChuck

We also stock the new Patriot chuck from Robert Sorby and its range of jaws, which are fitting -comptible with the Supernova.  Please call for more information.

The SuperNova Chuck Jaw Range is comprehensive and, coupled SuperNova with 50 mm jaws mountedwith the generous movement of the jaw slides, can accommodate just about any workpiece you care to name!  The jaws shown can be mounted not only on the SuperNova2 chuck but also on the former SuperNova and Nova models.  Please note that these chuck jaws can also be mounted on our VersaChuck for added versatility.

The standard jaws supplied with the chuck packages offered above are the 50 mm jaws which will expand into a dovetail recess sized from 50 mm (2") to 75 mm (3").  In compression mode, these jaws will close onto a spigot, or bowl "foot", with a diameter from 45 mm (1.57") to 65 mm (2.56").  For smaller projects the 25 mm jaws cover expansion into dovetails from 23.5 mm (0.93") to 46 mm (1.81") or compression onto spigots from 8.5 mm (0.33") to 25 mm (1").

Larger work is catered for by the 130 mm jaw sets.  The 130 mm Jumbo Jaws will surely meet your needs with their impressive 124 mm (4.88") to 149 mm (5.87") expansion mode and 107 mm (4.21") to 130 mm (5.1") compression mode capacity.

If gargantuan grip is what you seek then the Power Grip jaws may be what you are looking for.  Internally serrated for maximum retention, SuperNova Power Grip Jawsthese jaws will hang on to long workpieces, projecting well out of the chuck, such as tall goblets and vases.  They will also expand into a 96 mm (3.78") to 120 mm (4.72") recess as well as gripping an 84 mm (3.31") to 92 mm (3.62") foot.

At the other end of the size scale but equally renowned for tenacious grip are the Spigot Jaws - also known as Shark Jaws. TheseSuperNova Shark Spigot Jaws jaws are designed, by virtue of their serrated inner surfaces to tightly grip long workpieces such as goblets and vases.  They also feature dovetail recess holding capability covering a range from 53 mm (2.09") to 97 mm (3.82") in two steps.  In compression mode the 35 mm jaws grip 30 mm (1.18") to 50 mm (2") .

For finishing the base of work after turning, the Mini Cole jaws make life very simple.  The workpiece is held onto these aluminium jaws by eight non-marking rubber buttons which work equally effectively in expansion or compression mode.

It is often useful to be able to de-mount and later, re-mount workpieces.  When using a dovetail formed on the workpiece, this often proved to be a frustrating exercise as re-aligning the workpiece can be very troublesome.  The use of Faceplate Rings overcomes this limitation and makes accurate re-mounting of work very easy.  These rings are available to fit the 50 mm and 100 mm dovetail jaws and for each size of dovetail there is a choice of two outside diameters, allowing a ring appropriate to the size of the workpiece to be selected.  Faceplate rings are a real boon in situations where work must be frequently de-mounted and re-mounted, such as in education, where a ring attached to the workpiece means that each student can rest assured that the work will re-mount straight and true the next time it is their turn on the lathe.
